Capacity
The first thing you need to do is think about how many people will be attending. This will help you decide how big the venue needs to be. Think about your guest list. Remember that not everybody you invite will attend. If you are selling tickets, the bigger the venue will mean the more tickets you can sell. However, a larger venue will cost more.
Layout
It’s important that you think about your event too. How will the event run? Will different rooms be required for different talks? Perhaps you will need outdoor space for activities or larger rooms for bigger talks with smaller rooms for break out sessions? When you know the plan of your event, you can ensure you find a venue that can meet the needs of the event layout.
Location
If it’s a one-day conference, then you will want somewhere that is easy for people to get to. This could be a city or other central location for example.
